PORTRAITS OF LOUIS (LEWIS) DEITRICH (DIETRICH) AND CHRISTINA

The Dietrich family has on loan Lewis Dietrich and wife Christina wall portraits at the AWTHS.  Lewis was from Germany and settled in the New Breman area working with the canal system in western Ohio.  He married Christina Roh and the family came to Arcanum in 1893.  They bought the lot and had a brick building constructed which was the Louis Deitrich Saloon and Hotel in 1894.  The Saloon continued until 1899.  Louis owned a farm in Monroe Township and then lived in Pitsburg.  He is buried in Mote Cemetery and had nine children.  Today the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society is home in this designated historic site known as "Louis Deitrich Saloon and Hotel".
