We are open the First Saturday Morning of the Month  for building tours, displays, and the reference library for research from 9am-noon.  It is recommended to schedule an appointment for research so volunteers can be prepared.  Please call or e-mail  to make arrangements.  contact@arcanumhistoricalsociety.org.

Jointly sponsored by the Twin Township Trustees and AWTHS a all-day “Hands on Workshop” to learn correct and safe methods to clean stones and fix head stones as well as info on preserving cemeteries. Instructor Mark Morton from Gravestone Guardians of Ohio will lead the class.

March 7th   7:00 p.m. – Darke County Center of the Arts Coffee House Performance – Join us at AWTHS for an evening with Lee Murdock a talented instrumentalist on six and twelve string guitars who combines ragtime, Irish, blues and folk styles with a flair for storytelling in his songs. Enjoy this fun evening.  Tickets may be purchased through DCCA, Fourman’s Variety Store or at the door.    

March 14th 7:00 p.m. –  Guest Speaker – Jerry Stichter – Do you have concerns about what to do with the items you have accumulated over the years, whether they are antiques or just your favorites?  Jerry will help answer your questions. Jerry Stichter has over 40 years of experience as an auctioneer and appraiser. He is not only an auctioneer, he is a friend who likes to talk with groups to help keep people from  making mistakes when faced with these decisions. Jerry will have helpful guidelines for people with different situations; he will be there to answer your questions.

     Jerry was the auctioneer for the John Smith Company, ”The Big Store”, sale in 1995.  He will share stories from the two day auction which drew buyers from across the country, like the old metal sign that was nailed down to cover up a hole and sold for big bucks..

May 9th  7:00 p.m. –  Darryl Mehaffie – Darryl Mehaffie  will share his experiences as an educator in the public school system,  a Darke County Fair Board Member. Darryl was born in the rural Arcanum area and currently resides in Greenville Ohio.. Married to MaryAnn Tully Mehaffie, retired elementary teacher with two married sons and three grandchildren. Darryl will share his experiences of serving on the Darke County Agriculture Society 1980 – 2007 for the "Great Darke County Fair.". Other community involvement includes: Darke County Historical Society, Garst Museum Board of Trustees, Lions International, Darke County Visitors Bureau, Darke County Center for the Arts, Bears Mill Board of Directors 2001 – 2006 as well as political and educational endeavors.

May 18 through Sunday, May 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 during Arcanum Old Fashioned Days the Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society as part of our 15th year celebration will be open for building tours, displays about our founders and organization.

2019 Coffee and Conversation Series 10:00 a.m.                     

Coffee and Conversation Series continues for the sixth summer.  Those attending the past sessions have enjoyed sharing laughs, memories, and stories of growing up in Southern Darke County.  Each session features a different guest with a little different background and different experiences. They will be sharing their stories and they want to hear your stories too. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a donut while reminiscing with neighbors and friends.  You are welcome to bring memorabilia to share with us during these morning sessions. Each session begins at 10:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of the month.  

June 8th – Kurt Troutwine     Kurt will shares stories about growing up in Arcanum in the 60s and 70s, joining his father, Keith, in his insurance business, becoming a volunteer firefighter then being appointed Arcanum Fire Chief.

July 13th   –     

August 10th – Annette Stewart   Annette will share how she uncovered some of the history of a log house on her family’s property, the decision to dismantle it after so many years, the steps of that process and finally the journey of the log house to its new location. 

September 7th The  Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society will sponsor a guided walking tour of Arcanum's historic sites in town exact hours will be announced in the near future.

Programs or meetings are held January, March, May and again in the fall,  (September and November ) the second Thursday evening of the month unless noted.

Stop in and visit our home of the present AWTHS.   Lewis Deitrich purchased the lot in 1894 and construction began of the brick building for a saloon and hotel. We have Lewis (Louis) and Christina's wall portraits on loan to view. Tour and learn the history as well as visit the many displays including our "old schools" of the area and the Marj Heyduck display case.  Past businesses of Arcanum and surrounding area are featured as well as clubs and the military
